Check In Meeting Exercises – Communication Focus

Check In Meeting Exercises – Communication Focus

We don’t always have time for a formal training or exercise to do with a team. Shorter 5-10 minute exercises can be perfect options to include in monthly or periodic check in meetings with a leader and their team members. Choose one of the three activities below that best fit your needs.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE?
In the exercise, share what’s your favorite related to the communication question. You are welcome to share the reasoning behind your selection.

  • Communication style
  • Story connected to a communication hiccup
  • Your strength connected to communication
  • Strength connected to a previous leaders communication
  • Strength connected to a peers communication (previous or current organization)

REAL WORLD SITUATIONS
Identify two situations that involved communication that you want to bring up and talk through. It could be a mixture of situations that were handled well or poorly, currently ongoing, ones still bothering you, or not yet handled.

SITUATION #1

SITUATION #2

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
Discussion questions are a great way to dive deeper into the topic of communication and gain new insights.

  • Do you feel confident in your communication skills? Where do you want to grow? What are your top strengths related to communication?
  • What would you consider to be your superpower related to communication?
  • What can your leader do to help with communication?
  • What can your company do to help with communication?
  • What trainings or additional learnings would you like related to communication?

Ongoing Application and Reinforcement

After a training, exercise, or assessment is completed, ongoing application and reinforcement become the focus. Learning is sustained through follow-up trainings, exercises, and/or micro-learning opportunities, as well as by integrating the topic into goals, performance conversations, recognition efforts, and peer learning groups.

As individuals build knowledge, experience, and confidence, they are empowered to lead, share insights, and support others in applying the learning as well. This approach reflects the meaning of Praeliscere with Learn, Apply, Lead.

Learn. Apply. Lead.
